Analysis performed on a hydro
alcoholic (30% EtOH) extract of
sample (ca. 4 mg/ml) by
sonication for 10 minutes at
ambient temperature, followed by
centrifugation (14K rpm),
resultant supernatant injected
on a Waters Symmetry C18 3µm
(250x4.6mm), eluted with a
gradient mobile phase of 5% ACN:
95% water, changing linearly
over 20 minutes to 45% ACN: 55%
water. Detection performed using
photodiode array (scanning
200-400nm) with signal
extraction at 205nm for
identification. Authentic whole
Hoodia gordoni apical stem
sample utilized as standard,
peak isolation by
semi-preparative chromatography
used for quantification.
Heavy metal analysis performed
using Inductively Coupled Plasma
Atomic Emission Spectrometry
(ICP-AES) on a Varian Liberty
150AX-II on a 2% nitric acid
digested sample (1mg/ml)
introduced at 1.0ml / min with a
15L/min argon plasma temp of
16000°C, in sequential
wavelength mode with integration
time of 5 sec in triplicate for
each elemental signature
emission line. External
calibration solution utilized
for quantification obtained from
